The Beginning of Secret Plan


A few months before this session, Marc reached out to me with a special request, he wanted to surprise his girlfriend, Faith, with a proposal during their trip to Japan. From our discussion, I could feel how thoughtful and genuine he was. He shared that they both wanted to experience two sides of Japan, the charm of its traditional streets and the calm beauty of nature. Together, we planned the flow, location, and the perfect moment for the surprise. In the end, Marc decided on a two-hour session across two locations, complete with an additional proposal video.

We began the morning in Kyoto’s Gion District. The quiet alleys, lined with wooden buildings, created a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. The autumn air was crisp, yet the mood between them was full of warmth and love. Their soft-toned outfits blended beautifully with the brown hues of the traditional streets, making each frame feel cinematic and timeless. They laughed, danced lightly in the empty street, and enjoyed the stillness of the morning.

Every corner offered charm of classic buildings, soft greenery, and the elegant of Japanese architecture. We found a willow tree, its delicate branches creating a natural frame for the happy couple. To embrace Kyoto’s traditional spirit, we also stopped by a local shrine, where the orange torii gates with white lanterns added a beautiful contrast, perfect as backdrop setting. And of course, no Japan session is complete without a quick photo stop at a vending machine, a small but iconic detail of their journey.

A short walk away, we reached a clear river lined with trees and a stone bridge. The gentle light reflected on the water as they crossed the bridge, sharing quiet smiles before sitting by the riverbank. The first session ended there, and Faith had no idea that the next part of the day would become an unforgettable moment in her life.

A Beautiful Surprise 


For the second location, they changed into a different outfit and we headed to Kyoto Botanical Gardens. The morning there felt fresh, serene, and calm. They walked hand in hand through the garden paths until we reached a small bridge surrounded by autumn trees. I guided Faith to stand at the center of the bridge, asking her to look away for a moment. When she turned back, Marc was already on one knee, holding a ring box. Her surprise quickly turned into happiness, she said yes. It was an emotional, once in a lifetime moment.

The remainder of the session was pure, unfiltered joy. We continued exploring the park, passing through bamboo paths, pausing at a lakeside gazebo, and capturing moments by a small local shrine and a vibrant red flower garden. It wasn’t just a photoshoot, it was a journey through Kyoto, filled with memories they’ll cherish forever.

We ended the day with a playful candid pose when Marc giving Faith a piggyback ride as she smiled and proudly showed her engagement ring. This day reminded me that photography isn’t just about images, it’s about capturing the emotions that define a life chapter. I wish Marc and Faith a lifetime of joy and love as beautiful as this autumn morning in Kyoto.
