A Quiet Love Story in Kyoto's Alley
This is the story of Abhinab and Mitali, a lovely couple who traveled to Japan to spend quality time together during their winter trip. While searching for a photographer to document their journey, they instantly connected with my photography style. During our discussion, I learned that they were drawn to experiencing Kyoto at night, so I recommended a location that matched their preference. Their session began at dusk, as the sky softened and the streets gradually grew calmer. As evening settled in, lanterns were lit one by one, casting a warm glow along the alley. The light created a quiet and timeless atmosphere, setting the tone for a calm and personal session.
They started by slowly walking through the district, exploring the narrow streets as the lanterns and distant city lights added depth to the scene. A short walk away, they entered a quieter part of the alley, where the dim lighting and soft lantern glow gently highlighted their expressions. I captured their natural connection, warm glances, subtle gestures, and the quiet comfort they shared in a setting that felt personal and unhurried. Under the soft glow of shop signs and scattered lights, their moments felt cinematic, like fragments of a quiet love story. Even in the cool winter breeze, there was a sense of warmth in the way they stayed close to each other
As they continued exploring, they paused briefly in front of a vending machine. The neon light, combined with their reflection on the glass, created a simple yet striking contrast, adding a modern touch to their Kyoto experience.
Every corner of the area offered something worth capturing. I photographed them in front of wooden facades, framed by lantern light and glowing storefronts, with subtle city lights in the background. The setting naturally reflected Kyoto’s night atmosphere, calm, textured, and full of character.
For the final shots, I photographed them beneath the sign of Kyoto Star Bar, an iconic spot that marked their night in the city. I’m grateful to have captured their moments and guided them through this night session experience. I hope that whenever they look back at these photos, they are reminded of that quiet and romantic winter night in Kyoto.
