A Newly Married Couple’s First Trip to Japan

Brandon and Diane decided to celebrate their very first trip to Japan with a photo session with me. After searching through Instagram, they felt an instant connection with my work and booked a session to capture their memories here. During our discussion, I learned that they were especially drawn to Japan’s traditional side, serene temples and harmony with nature. Since their trip also fell in autumn season, it felt right to choose a Kyoto temple surrounded by greenery that matched their preference perfectly.

A Peaceful Setting in Kyoto Temple

We arrived at the temple early in the morning, when the grounds were still quiet and calm. The couple loved the peaceful atmosphere, blend of historic temple architecture surrounding by beautiful landscape. The morning weather was kind, sound of birds filled the space, and small animals occasionally appeared, adding a quiet charm to the session. With the temple’s pagoda rising gracefully in the background, we began with portraits that highlighted both the structure and their joyful connection.

A Heartfelt Announcement

Beyond the joy of their newlywed trip, there was a deeper meaning to this session. Diane is expecting their first child, and they wanted to weave this into the photographs. We captured tender moments that celebrated this new chapter. With hands forming a heart over her belly, gentle embraces, and even a sweet note that read “Baby Chin coming soon.” Suddenly, the session became more than a travel memory; it turned into a maternity shoot that celebrated life, love, and new beginnings

The next part of our session took place in the garden area of the temple, where rows of autumn trees created a tranquility backdrop. The atmosphere felt both serene and playful, and Brandon and Diane embraced it fully. They walked hand in hand, laughed freely, and even danced a little among the fallen leaves. Their connection unfolded so naturally that I hardly needed to guide them since they simply enjoyed being in the moment, and the photos reflected that authenticity. One of my favorite captures was when Brandon hugged Diane from behind, and she couldn’t stop smiling. Those small gestures became the heart of the session.

For Brandon and Diane, traveling to Japan for the first time, the choice to hire a local photographer meant more than just avoiding selfies. It gave them a guided experience, access to quiet corners of Kyoto, and candid images that captured their authentic joy. More than a photoshoot, it became a meaningful part of their trip as something to look back on as their family grows.
