A Night of Lights and Love
A few months before this session, Robert reached out to me with a special idea, he wanted to plan a night photoshoot in Osaka and propose to his girlfriend, Mel. From the first conversation, I could already sense how thoughtful he was. He wanted everything to feel intimate, romantic, and memorable. I was honored to be part of this once in a lifetime moment. Robert had arranged a boat ride at Hachikenyahama Pier in Osaka and asked me to capture the proposal from a distance. When we arrived, we discovered that the boat could only fit three people, the couple and the boatman. Thankfully, the boatman kindly agreed to help record the video, while I documented the moment candidly from the riverside.
As the boat drifted along the river, the scene unfolded beautifully. Trees along the water were illuminated by warm lights, and the city buildings sparkled in the background. The soft reflections on the water created a romantic glow, the perfect setting for what was about to happen. Mel seemed completely lost in the moment, admiring the night view and taking pictures on her phone, unaware of what Robert was planning. Then, with quiet confidence, he opened a small ring box, whispered something heartfelt, and asked her to marry him. Her surprise turned into pure joy, and of course she said yes.
After the boat returned, we continued the session by the river. From the bridge, the city lights reflected on the water, creating a cinematic mood. They talked, laughed, and shared a small dance. Still filled with the joy of the proposal, they decided to recreate the moment with the city evening glow of Osaka behind them. A short walk away, we found a small park where the trees were wrapped in golden fairy lights. The warm glow added a gentle touch to the portraits, making them feel simple, genuine, and full of emotion.
The session ended with them enjoying a slow evening stroll, soaking in the calm Osaka night vibes. The evening breeze carried peace, but their connection brought all the warmth. Even under city lights, love shines brightest. I’m truly grateful to have captured Robert and Mel’s beautiful moment and wish them a lifetime filled with love and happiness.
