Short Getaway Turn Into Timeless Memories
This is the story of Colby and Rose, a couple who chose to spend their winter holiday in Japan as a quiet escape and a chance to enjoy time together. When they were searching for a photographer to document their trip, they felt an immediate connection to my photography style and decided to trust me to capture their journey. The session started early in the morning at one of Kyoto’s iconic heritage locations. The streets were still empty, calm and undisturbed. It felt like the kind of moment where the city hadn’t fully woken up yet, making it a perfect setting to begin. With lanterns glowing softly and rows of orange torii gates in the background, I captured Rose walking toward Colby before gently wrapping her arms around him. It was a simple moment, but it carried a quiet kind of romance, something that felt balanced between their connection and the surrounding culture.
As they embraced the stillness of the morning, they began to move more freely, enjoying the serene atmosphere by dancing lightly along the quiet path, framed by traditional storefronts and red lanterns. There was no rush, just small interactions unfolding naturally.
A short walk away, they passed a vending machine. Its vivid colors popped against the muted tones of winter, offering a sharp, urban contrast to the stillness around them. As the sun slowly rose, the light became softer and warmer, creating a natural glow that followed them as they walked through a narrow alley. There, they fell into a slow dance once more, swaying through the calm morning ambience. In that moment, it felt as though the world had fallen silent, leaving it only for the two of them.
For the final part of the session, I photographed them against a weathered wooden facade. Their connection and the quiet tone of the surroundings had a way of making the whole moment feel timeless. What stood out most wasn’t anything dramatic, but the way they looked at each other and the small, gentle gestures they shared. Those details made the session feel less like a photoshoot and more like a quiet scene from a movie. I’m grateful to have been trusted to capture this part of their trip. Hopefully, when they look back at these photos, it b rings them back to that calm winter morning in Kyoto.
