From a Peaceful Morning to a Golden Sunset
This is the story of Ferry and Jesselyn, a lovely couple who wanted to capture memories from their trip to Japan. Jesselyn was the first to reach out to me, sharing her plan for a photo session at both sunrise and sunset, with a mix of natural and traditional settings. A few days later, Ferry also contacted me separately with a special plan in mind. He wanted to turn their photo session into a surprise proposal and trusted me to help arrange this once in a lifetime moment.
We began in the calm of the early morning at a beautiful garden, just as the gentle autumn breeze brushed through the trees. It was the kind of place they had imagined quiet, green, and filled with soft light. As we explored the park, we reached a small bridge surrounded by trees. They posed naturally, unaware of what was coming, until Ferry went down on one knee and opened a small ring box. Jesselyn was caught completely by surprise, her expression shifting from disbelief to joy. Of course, she said yes. It was a simple yet touching scene, and I felt grateful to capture it quietly through my lens.
After the proposal, the mood became lighter and filled with laughter. As the sun rose, golden light filtered through the leaves, creating a cinematic glow around them. We took a few close up shots that captured their genuine connection. Under a willow tree, the sunlight and leaves framed them softly almost as if nature itself was celebrating their love.
We continued wandering through the area and came across a few traditional wooden buildings that added timeless character to the photos. On a quiet street lined with Japanese characters, we paused to capture calm, authentic frames. And like many visitors in Japan, they couldn’t resist taking a few fun shots beside a vending machine a playful detail that perfectly reflected their joyful mood.
For the second session, Ferry and Jesselyn changed into traditional kimonos, blending beautifully with Kyoto’s serene atmosphere. We met by the riverside just before sunset, where lanterns began to glow softly above the wooden houses. The calm water mirrored the warm colors of the sky, and as they walked hand in hand, the whole scene felt like a still from a quiet movie.
As the sun dipped behind the hills, the light turned golden, wrapping everything in gentle warmth. We also took a few silhouette shots, simple but full of emotion and capturing brief moment when the sunset met their calm joy. The river shimmered in orange gold tones, contrasting beautifully with the soft pastels of their kimonos. They sat by the riverside, laughing quietly and enjoying the stillness of the evening, surrounded by the fading light and the soft hum of the village nearby.
We ended the day near a small local shop, where red lanterns glowed warmly above. The cozy atmosphere added a nostalgic touch the kind of ending that stays with you long after the day is over. What began as a casual trip turned into a story filled with connection and emotion. I’m truly grateful to have witnessed it and wish Ferry and Jesselyn a lifetime of love and happiness.
