A Quiet Moment in Nature Turned Into a Lifetime Memory
This is the story of James and Jess, a couple who traveled to Kyoto to spend some quality time together and capture a few meaningful memories. After browsing through my portfolio, they felt connected to the style and decided to book a session. During my conversation with James, he told me something special, he planned to propose to Jess during the shoot. I then recommended a peaceful nature spot that would give the perfect moment of surprise.
We began our session that morning, and the sun created a soft, warm light that filtered beautifully through the trees. I had already prepared my camera in a hidden spot. When they reached a small wooden bridge crossing over a clear stream, their reflection on the water created a gentle silhouette, adding a calm and intimate mood to the scene. James and Jess walked to the center of the bridge, and as she slightly turned , James suddenly went down on one knee and opened the ring box. Jess froze for a moment, surprised, her hands covering her face before she finally said “Yes!” with a huge, radiant smile. I used a wide-angle lens to candidly capture the entire scene, the surrounding trees, the golden sunlight illuminating the leaves, and the emotional moment unfolding at the heart of it all.
After the proposal, we continued the session with pure happiness. They walked hand in hand along the shaded path, as if nature itself was creating a beautiful frame for their story. They laughed, hugged, and Jess proudly showed off her ring and paused for a moment to share a gentle dance in the autumn ambiance. Even did a playful piggyback pose, and I captured a mix of close-up shots to highlight their connection and the delicate details of the engagement ring.
I captured candid gestures of their sweet connection, the soft touches and loving gazes that warmed the atmosphere. A few shots were taken as they walked past a small lakeside gazebo framed by fall foliage, with a little shrine nearby and a vibrant orange gate adding cultural depth to their story. We ended the session with more portraits in nature, where the sunlight and scenery wrapped them in a peaceful glow.
I was grateful to document this special chapter in their journey. I hope that when James and Jess look back at these photos, they remember not just the proposal itself, but also the calm morning, the golden light, and the joy that filled every step of their day in Kyoto.
