Capturing Intimate Moments from Sunset to Night


This is the story of Richard and Manqi, a lovely couple who reached out to book a session to capture memories together. During our discussion, I discovered they were actually friends of one of my previous clients and that they connected with my photography style. They shared that they loved Japanese food and sunsets, so I suggested a few locations that would fit their preferences. We started the session in the late afternoon. The first frames were taken at a small local shrine to add a touch of cultural depth to their gallery. As the lanterns began to light up, the warm glow and the vibrant torii gate created a cinematic atmosphere.

A short walk later, we arrived at a riverside framed by trees. They crossed a small stone bridge, with the scenery unfolding around them and the faint twinkle of the city lights glowing behind. As the sun began to set, we headed toward a nearby park. The garden lights slowly turned on, and the sky shifted into soft evening colors. By the river, they stepped across the stones and shared a gentle kiss, like a scene borrowed from a quiet romantic film. During golden hour, I also captured their silhouettes against the trees, the warm light creating a simple but striking contrast.

The gentle autumn evening breeze made everything feel calm. As night settled in, they continued their stroll past rows of street-food stalls and traditional restaurants. The distinct aroma of Japanese dishes filled the air, adding to the sensory experience of the moment. We paused near a takoyaki stand and a few storefronts with bright neon signs, soaking in the lively yet peaceful street atmosphere. In the quiet of the street, they shared another small dance. We wrapped up the session by capturing them in front of a vending machine, the neon glow giving the scene a unique ambiance. The reflections on the glass, their relaxed smiles, and the small toast they shared while enjoying their drinks created a simple yet memorable moment. I’m grateful to have captured these sweet, genuine moments of Richard and Manqi’s evening together. From the cultural depth of the shrine to the golden hour by the river, and the intimate night stroll through softly lit streets, these images now hold the story of a calm, joyful night they can revisit anytime.
