A Lovely Surprise by Day and Intimate Night Vibes
This is the story of Savan and Laxmi, a lovely couple visiting Japan to spend quality time together. They came across my portfolio and immediately connected with my style and decided to book a photoshoot. During our discussion, I learned they desired a truly traditional Japanese atmosphere. They opted for a two-part session: a bright morning shoot for capturing the natural beauty of Kyoto, followed by an intimate evening session. Savan also shared his intention to propose to Laxmi, and he trusted me to choose the perfect location for his special plan.
We started early in the morning when the autumn breeze felt calm and refreshing. The streets were still quiet, lined with traditional wooden buildings that reflected Kyoto’s timeless charm. Their chemistry was natural and easy to photograph. I began capturing their candid connection from the way they held hands to exchanged gentle glances, and smiled at each other.
Short walk away, we reached area with a tall pagoda standing gracefully in the background. As they posed back to back for a casual portrait, Savan suddenly went down on one knee and revealed the ring. When Laxmi turned around, she was completely surprised. Her eyes filled with emotion as she said yes. I captured the entire moment, focusing on their raw, intimate joy while ensuring the beauty of the surroundings complemented the scene.
As the morning light began to rise, the sun illuminated the wooden buildings, adding a cinematic glow to the scene. We continued exploring, taking portraits in front of Kyoto’s iconic orange torii gates. The vibrant colors added cultural depth to their gallery. I also guided them to a quiet path surrounded by trees and greenery, where the soft light created a serene setting. We finished the morning session on a stone staircase framed by nature, capturing gentle laughter and a few relaxed poses
Intimate Night Session
When the sun began to set, we continued the second session at a local shrine. The atmosphere shifted completely, lanterns glowed warmly, and the orange torii gates stood out beautifully against the night sky creating cinematic night scene. The streets around us were lined with small restaurants and luminous shop signs, adding that cinematic Kyoto night vibes.
I used a wider perspective to capture the ambient light as they walked down a narrow lane. They stopped for a moment, sharing a quiet laugh and a gentle kiss, an intimate pause in the middle of the vibrant night. The light spilling from a nearby lantern created beautiful shadows, giving the scene a depth and feeling often found in classic movie. We couldn’t skip the must-have Japan photo, beside a vending machine. The soft glow from the machine reflected on their faces, adding a playful yet iconic touch to end the shoot.
As their photographer, I felt grateful to witness and document such a heartfelt moment, from the surprise proposal to the quiet walks under Kyoto’s lanterns. I hope these images will always remind Savan and Laxmi of the warmth, joy, and connection they shared on that beautiful day and night in Kyoto.
